ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POLICY

Al-Manar: Jurnal Kajian Alquran dan Hadis

1. General Policy

Al-Manar: Jurnal Kajian Alquran dan Hadis recognizes the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their potential to support academic writing. However, the journal is committed to maintaining scholarly originality, intellectual responsibility, research integrity, and the authenticity of academic contributions.

The journal permits the use of AI-assisted tools exclusively for language editing and proofreading. AI tools must not be used to generate, develop, analyze, or interpret the scholarly content of manuscripts.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly quality of their submitted manuscripts, regardless of whether AI-assisted language tools have been used.

2. Permitted Use of AI

Authors may use AI-assisted tools solely to improve the linguistic quality and readability of manuscripts, including:

  1. Correcting grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors.

  2. Improving sentence structure, clarity, and readability without changing the intended meaning.

  3. Refining academic language, terminology, and linguistic consistency.

  4. Improving linguistic fluency while preserving the author's original arguments, interpretations, and scholarly contributions.

AI-assisted language editing must not introduce new ideas, arguments, interpretations, references, evidence, or substantive content into the manuscript.

Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-assisted language corrections before submission.

3. Prohibited Use of AI

The journal strictly prohibits the use of generative AI tools for activities that contribute to the intellectual or substantive content of a manuscript, including but not limited to:

  1. Generating research questions, hypotheses, theoretical frameworks, or research arguments.

  2. Generating substantive sections of manuscripts, including introductions, literature reviews, methodologies, results, discussions, and conclusions.

  3. Generating, analyzing, interpreting, or modifying research data and findings.

  4. Conducting literature reviews, synthesizing scholarly sources, or generating citations and references.

  5. Producing interpretations of Qur’anic verses, Hadith texts, or classical and contemporary Islamic scholarly works.

  6. Performing Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), Hadith criticism, or textual and contextual analysis.

  7. Generating or fabricating quotations, references, research evidence, or scholarly claims.

  8. Substantively rewriting AI-generated content to present it as original human scholarship.

All intellectual contributions, scholarly analyses, interpretations, and conclusions must originate from the authors' own research and academic judgment.

4. AI Use Disclosure

Authors who use AI-assisted tools for language editing or proofreading must disclose such use in their manuscripts.

The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and briefly describe its purpose. Authors may include the following statement:

Declaration of AI-Assisted Language Editing

"The authors used [.... name of AI tool] solely for language editing and proofreading to improve grammatical accuracy, clarity, and readability. No AI tools were used to generate scholarly content, conduct research analysis, interpret sources, or formulate the findings and conclusions. The authors reviewed and approved all language modifications and take full responsibility for the manuscript."

Authors who have not used AI-assisted tools are not required to include an AI-use declaration.

5. Authorship and Accountability

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and ethical accountability of scholarly work.

All listed authors must take full responsibility for the manuscript, including any language modifications made with AI assistance.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted editing does not distort research findings, alter the meaning of Qur’anic verses or Hadith texts, introduce inaccurate terminology, or compromise the accuracy of citations and references.

6. AI Use in Peer Review and Editorial Processes

Reviewers and editors must maintain the confidentiality and integrity of unpublished manuscripts.

Reviewers and editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, review reports, or confidential editorial materials to publicly accessible generative AI systems or third-party AI services without appropriate authorization and adequate confidentiality safeguards.

Generative AI must not replace independent scholarly judgment in evaluating manuscripts, preparing substantive peer review assessments, or making editorial decisions.

The responsibility for peer review reports and editorial decisions remains entirely with the assigned reviewers and editors.

7. Non-Compliance and Editorial Actions

The journal reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this policy.

If inappropriate AI use is identified, the editorial team may request clarification, supporting documentation, or revisions from the authors.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may reject the manuscript, suspend editorial processing, or take appropriate post-publication action in accordance with its publication ethics procedures.

Any investigation will consider available evidence and provide authors with an appropriate opportunity to respond. AI-detection software results alone will not be treated as conclusive evidence of misconduct.

8. Policy Compliance

By submitting a manuscript to Al-Manar: Jurnal Kajian Alquran dan Hadis, authors agree to comply with this AI Policy.

The journal permits AI-assisted language editing and proofreading only. The generation, analysis, or interpretation of scholarly content using AI is strictly prohibited.

The journal may review and update this policy in response to developments in AI technologies, scholarly publishing standards, and research integrity practices.
